Unveiling ‘El Nido’: Disney Springs Art Walk Showcases Cuban Culture and Family Bonds

Art Walk Takes Flight with “El Nido”

  • Katerina Santos and Juan Travieso, a Cuban couple based in Miami, have unveiled their new mural titled “El Nido” (The Nest in Spanish) at Walt Disney World Resort’s Disney Springs.
  • This colourful and detailed artwork celebrates family bonds, Cuban culture, and represents the first time Santos and Travieso have painted their one-year-old son, Luka.
  • The mural was unveiled as part of the Disney Springs Art Walk, an outdoor exhibition featuring vibrant murals from local artists and those around the world.
  • Completed on September 29, 2023, “El Nido” is now part of the Art Walk located at Town Center at Disney Springs.
  • The couple adopts the joint moniker TRATOS, a combination of their last names and a Spanish word that translates to “deal” or “bond”. The pair describes this as a “promise to one another to create a reality we wish to see with our paintings”.
  • The unveiling of the mural is also a recognition of Hispanic & Latin American Heritage Month, highlighting Disney’s commitment to cultural inclusivity and diversity.

The Realists Take

So, the artistic dynamic duo collectively known as TRATOS has left their mark at Disney Springs, and boy is it colorful! Taking inspiration from their child, their Cuban roots, and possibly their favorite box of crayons, they’ve whipped up an eyeful called “El Nido”. Apparently, painting their one-year-old Luka was part of their own magical moment… I’m just hoping the mural didn’t start with a diaper explosion as inspiration. All kidding aside, this marvelous mural certainly adds another hearty dose of ‘colourful culture’ to the already vibrant Disney Springs Art Walk. So next time you find yourself at Disney, go check if the colors of El Nido are just as vibrant or if Mickey Mouse has tried to add his own personal ‘touch’!
